Cape May

NJのCape Mayでショートバケーション

道中、こんなところにも寄ってみました。
My wife and I went to Cape May, New Jersey for a short vacation.
We stopped by a couple of places on our way down. 

50's, 60'sのレトロボードがたくさん。

東海岸でここまであるのは珍しい。

There were lots of retro surfboards from the 1950's and 60's at this shop. 

It's rare to see these kinds of boards on the east coast.

Surf City

我々が宿泊したCape Mayのホテル。１８１６年に開業！

This is the hotel where we stayed in Cape May. They opened for business in 1816. 

左のコンクリートはWWⅡの時の武器倉庫

On the left is a concrete bunker where they kept weapons during WWII.

波が無くてサーフィンは出来ませんでしたが、楽しい旅行でした。

キャリー（妻）も楽しそう。

There were no waves, so I couldn't surf. But it was a nice trip. 

Carrie, my wife, also had a good time. 

Friday the 13th

今週はロングビーチの風向きが良かったので、今日も来てしまいました。

前の日のスウェルが残っていて、腰胸サイズの楽しいそうなブレイク。
We been having good off shore wind all this week in Long Beach,
so I came surfing here again today.
The waves were good size--waist to chest high. 

久々のラウンドノーズフィッシュです。

でもそろそろ新しいのが欲しいな。。。
I rode my old round nose fish board for the first time in a long time today.
I want to buy a new one. 

水温も上がって来たので、次回からは4/3mmのウェットで大丈夫。

いやー、楽しかった。
The water temperature is getting warmer.
Maybe next time I can wear my 4/3 mm wetsuit.
It was a good day. 

Doughnut

ドーナツ大好きの僕のお気に入りの場所。

I went to my new favorite doughnut store.
It's in Brooklyn, and it's called "Dough."

The Cove in NJ

今日は大雨の中、Sandy hookの Cove に行ってきました。

僕の最近のお気に入りポイントです。
Today we went to Sandy Hook Cove in the heavy rain.
This is my new favorite surfing point. 

他では見ない、ポイントブレイク特有の波。
There's a point break here, which is rare in this part of the coast. 

フォトグラファーの野口さんとの楽しいセッションでした。
My photographer friend, Noguchi, and I had a good session. 

Long Beach in NY not CA

On Saturday, good waves in Long Beach.

But you still need 5mm suit, hood, boots and gloves...

Bryant park

いやー、今日は暑かった。NYは夏のようでした。気温８０°F（２７℃）。生地屋のセールスと商談のアポがあったのですが、自分のオフィスがまだ無い僕に、彼が提案した場所は、なんとブライアントパーク。日光浴をしながらのビジネスミーティング、よかったです。

Wow, today was hot! Summer has come to New York. The temperature was 80 F. I had an appointment with a fabric salesperson, but I still don't have an office to work out of. He suggested we meet at Bryant Park. It was a nice, sunbathing business meeting.

芝生の植え付けの工事中。

They're preparing for summer grass. 

夏はここの芝生でゴロゴロしたり、大きなスクリーンで映画を上映したり。僕のお気に入りの場所です。

This park has been one of my favorite spots for a while--for lying on the grass, watching movies, etc.

一週間の出来事。。。

１３日（水）--- BloomingdalesのSurfrider event
Here's what happened this week . . .
On the 13th, I went to the Surfrider Event at Bloomingdales.

Rob Machado が来ると言う情報だったのですが、彼はSanta monicaの Bloomingdalesに行ったそうです。Engineered Garments の商品も選ばれてます。
People said that Rob Machado would come to this event, but actually he went to the Santa Monica Bloomindales!
You can see Engineered Garments clothing at the section pictured above. 

２２日（金）--- Lido Beach でサーフィン　今年初のLido Beach　

ここの雰囲気は大好きです。
On the 22nd, I went surfing at Lido Beach for the first time this year.
This beach has a great vibe. 

１８日（月）--- NJ のSandy Hook でサーフィンして来ました。

ちょうどいい感じのうねりが入って来て、楽しいサーフィンでした。
On the 18th, I went to Sandy Hook in New Jersey.
There were good swells and great surfing.

Amsterdam wetsuit

NYのLong beach は膝腰サイズ。オフシュア、水温42°Fつまり5℃　当然、ブーツとグローブは必要。

Long Beach in New York had waist and chest high off shore waves today. The water temp was 42 F. So you definitely need boots and glove. 

 先日届いたAmsterdam wetsuit を早速トライ。とても暖かかったです。日本製の素材はとてもストレッチがよく、５ミリ厚でも全く肩が凝りません。
I tried out my Amsterdam wetsuit. It was really warm. Japanese fabric is really well made, so it stretches great. Even at 5mm thick, it doesn't feel too tight.

Surfing in NJ

今日は西風で前の日のウネリがまだ残っているので、アンティークショップExtraの耕司さんとNJに行きました。
Today we had westward winds and good swells. I went to New Jersey with Koji from Extra. http://extra-nyc.com/
まず始めにSandy Hookに寄りましたが。。。
We stopped by Sandy Hook first . . .

この近辺(NY & NJ)で唯一のポイントブレイク。なかなかグッドコンディションに恵まれません。

ここの面白いところは、ビーチからマンハッタンが見えることです。

チューブを抜けるとマンハッタンが見える。そんなライディングをいつかできれば。。。

In order to enjoy this point break, you need excellent conditions, like good wave and currents. It's nice because you can see Manhattan from the beach. Supposedly you can see the skyscrapers through the tube. I really want to experience that one day. 

我々はさらに南下して、Monmouth Beach に行きました。
We kept driving south and stopped by Monmouth Beach. 

腰（ときどき胸）サイズのブレイクが入っているので、ここでサーフィン。平日なので人も少なく、たっぷり楽しめました。
There were waist high breaks here so we stopped to surf.
There weren't a lot of people around since it was a week day. 

家に帰って来たらカスタムオーダーのAmsterdam wetsuits が届いてました。
After coming home, I received a package from Amsterdam Wetsuits.

Sunny Sunday

今日はBlue Hill Farm に行きました。
Today we went to Blue Hill Farm.

ブルックリンから１時間弱のドライブで

It's less than a one hour drive from Brooklyn where you can see . . .

On the way home, we went to Vinegar Hill House to eat dinner.

そしたら、僕の好きなコメディアンZach Galifianakisがカウンターに。。。

平和な日曜日でした。

While we were there, Zach Galifianakis walked in and sat behind us. 

It was a peaceful sunny, funny day. 

San Onofre

最後にベストも完成。

I'd been making wetsuits all week. This vest was my last project. 

San Onofreに向かう途中、Rainbow Sandals に寄りました。

まだ、一部商品はこちらで作っているようです。

On the way to San Onofre, we stopped by Rainbow Sandals. 

They still make some of their products at this location. 

仕事のあとのSan Onofreでのサーフィン。夢のような毎日でした。

Surfing at San Onofre after work every day was like a dream.

While I was working, outside Skitch Hitchcock was having a meeting. 

He used to be a world champion skateboarder.
